We are introducing our new series, Matcha with..

Where we will sit at our favourite neighbour Matcha & Beyond and indulge in a delicious matcha whilst interviewing various inspirational people.

First up; Dr. Tara Swart. She walked into the store and Isabella noticed her fabulous colourful style and it has resulted in many exchanges and a deeper friendship.  

Why did you decide to write a book?
I’m a bit of a chameleon. I like to constantly re-invent myself. I’ve been a doctor specialising in psychiatry, I’m a neuroscientist, started up my own business coaching and speaking, became a best selling author and now I’m an ambassador for Aromatherapy Associates, Annabel's private members club and Heights smart supplement.

I wanted everyone to have access to the amazing research from psychology and neuroscience that shows we really do have the power to use our minds to change our lives.

Who has been your most inspirational figure in your life and why?
My grandmother was born in a rural village in India, betrothed at 5, married at 15, eight pregnancies from 16, six of which survived. She was a widow for the last 30 years of her life. But she showed me what a true matriarch is, and I’m grateful every day for the privilege of education that I’ve had together with the role model of an incredibly resilient woman.

What is your morning routine?
I wake up at the same time every day and do my meditation immediately. I then take a good quality probiotic, drink a glass of water and make my ceremonial grade matcha green tea. I have a chat with my husband to make sure we connect, as we wake up at very different times! After that if it’s an exercise day I may go for a run or do yoga. We have a mindful breakfast together. Then it’s straight into working from my home office.

5 things people can do to live a more mindful everyday?

  1. Listen to your body - try doing a simple body scan every day.
  2. Master your emotions - start with gratitude lists.
  3. Trust your gut - track this with journaling.
  4. Actively build your mental resilience - this isn’t something you are both with or not. You can use affirmations, cold showers or intermittent fasting to be mindful about building this.
  5. Spend some time every day, mind wandering to boost your creativity.
